Using Dreams to Let Go

Dreams, Visions, Nightmares, and Memories

In this post, I’ll walk you through a short example of finding the causal beliefs within your dreams, visions, nightmares, and memories.  The example I’m using was a clear vision that I had about twenty years ago during a reflexology session.  During that time, I was lost, depressed, my body ached all the time, and I was always exhausted — common symptoms for being trapped in another person’s illusion.  I feared going to a doctor, so I went to healers.  I needed and wanted someone to tell me how to let go.  But I wasn’t finding anyone.

As the reflexologist pushed on my feet, I suddenly smelled something like sulfur.  It was so strong that my eyes watered.  I mentioned this to the reflexologist, and she said, “It must be a message for you.  I don’t smell anything.”  Then she said, “I’m pushing on your heart area now…might be something about love.”  She told me to relax and see what popped into my mind, which was good advice.

I saw a young girl standing before a Nazi guard.  The girl was wearing a cute, ruffled blue dress and patent leather shoes.  Since my mom dressed me that way, I immediately identified with that character.

She was being led to the gas chamber.  That was the smell.   The little girl looked at the guard.  She smiled at him and said, “I still love you.”  I felt such peace and softness in my body; I felt unconditional love for this guard.  The guard pushed her into the gas chamber, and she died.  I was crying at this point — kind of wallowing in my sadness and victimhood.

She said I was releasing a past life, but I knew that I wasn’t letting go; I could see that my mind had already started to make conclusions about this vision like love isn’t enough.  I could see that we both wanted to turn my vision into a reason why I was powerless to change my life.  I was trying so hard to not allow that to happen.  I kept searching for a way to free myself from the vision.  But I didn’t know how to do that for many years.

 

The Cure

This vision was produced from my mind based on where I was at that time.  I eventually realized that the causal belief was that unconditional love was worthless currency on earth — it was not enough to make things right.  That was truly how I felt about my life.

Looking from the eyes of the guard, I could see another huge causal belief.  We have to obey authority — to do as we’re told.  Then I flipped back to the character of the girl.  I truly believed that authority was much more powerful than love.  Of course, these are common beliefs in the illusion — beliefs we all need to let go to be free.

After I discovered how to let go of beliefs, I could see that the belief, “Love is not enough” isn’t true.  I could see that the belief, authority has more power than love” was also a lie.  I could see that the whole damn vision was the product of my beliefs.  Do you see why it’s not helpful to call it a past life?  We don’t need to make it true.  Our past experiences are just the effect of the beliefs we held in mind at that time; they might be real, but they aren’t true.  When we live from truth, we won’t need to let go of beliefs anymore.

The vision showed me where my mind was at that time.  It showed me the beliefs that kept me trapped in an illusion.  To get free, I didn’t need to analyze the details or interpret symbols; it was all very straight forward.

Was I once this child killed in a Nazi concentration camp?  Who knows?  What’s key in that vision are the beliefs that would have caused me to be in such a situation.  After clearing those beliefs, I allowed the vision to replay from my current mental state.  I saw the girl look at the guard and say her words of love.  I felt the same purity.  He looked at her with a scowl and told her to go to the side of the gas chamber and wait for him.  He was still an obedient authority, but it didn’t matter.  I didn’t need to morph him into a saint.  She had the power because she had the real love.  I’d finally seen this vision from the perspective of the True Self.

Let me emphasize…I didn’t put love or positive thinking on top of my erroneous beliefs.  I simply let the beliefs go… they’re false.  The vision no longer bothered me; it existed like a dream…the illusion that it was.

 

Reasons

The reflexologist helped me focus on my body; she triggered the place where the belief was stored.   But her helpfulness ended when she saw the vision as a reason for the way things were.  People often feel satisfied when they find the reason.  Sadly, most people don’t realize they can let go.  They sing “Let It Go” but don’t know how.  We can’t help another let go of their beliefs until we let go ourselves.

When we take any memory, vision, nightmare, or dream and see the causal beliefs that created it, notice our emotional feedback, and let those beliefs go completely, we experience something amazing — freedom.  The scene changes; we learn that without those beliefs, we could never have had those dreams, nor could we experience such a reality.  I find that amazing.  As we clean up our memories and nightmares in this way, we start to see a different world.  We feel safe without needing everyone else to behave or let go.  We realize that other people’s illusions would only affect their life if we didn’t believe them.

Dreams tell us where we are going

Dreams

Dreams can be a powerful tool; they help us find causal beliefs.  But we must use our dreams in a productive way.  People generally view dreams as symbolic.  They interpret them and look for meaning in the activities, events, or items in the dream.  That can be fun; but it doesn’t help us move toward freedom.

Dreams are an unthreatening bridge that can show us what to let go from our false physically oriented interpretation of reality in order to get to our True mentally oriented perspective.  Dreams are powerful because we know we created them.  Dreams come out of our OWN mind.  We can’t blame anyone else for our dreams.  That’s key.  If we have dreams about killing, we still have an aspect of our false self that wants to kill someone or fears being killed.  If we have a demon in our dream, guess what we hold in our mind?

People make the mistake of only identifying with the main character in their dreams.  We created our dreams; so we’re the writer, the direction, and all the characters.  There’s enormous power in realizing that we invented all those characters whether we like them or not.  It’s hard to get to that level of honesty in the waking state.

If we wrote a screenplay or novel, we’d know what each character was going to say and do.  That’s how we write our dreams without effort.  For a person to write a story about stealing, they have to hold stealing in mind.  They can’t write about a bank robbery while thinking about pansies.  If we let our beliefs around such criminal behavior go after discovering them in our dreams, we don’t have to experience such things in real life.

 

How to Let Go Using Dreams?

Let’s say that you dream that you’re a student in school.  First work on yourself by asking questions.  Why am I in school?  Do I like being a student?  How do I feel about learning?  What am I learning?  Do I like it?  Get honest and speak your mind as that character.  If something you believe as that character feels bad (has emotion as you think it) let it go.  It’s a false belief.  Our false self adds drama, opposition, and bad tasting spices to our dreams and experiences.  It usually turns them from perfect, heavenly experiences into hellish nightmares.

Let’s say that you and another student got in trouble in the dream.  You’re also the other student.  Step into their character and ask yourself questions about you, the teacher, and school.  How do each of you feel about getting caught?  Why did you get caught?  What outcome do you fear as a result?  What were you thinking before and after you got caught?  These are thoughts that should have emotion — beliefs to let go as false.

Caution!  Don’t allow the answers to your questions to become reasons for why your life is the way it is.  We aren’t looking for interpretation; we’re looking for causal beliefs to let go.

You’re also the teacher in the dream.  Are you angry that students weren’t listening to you?  Do you dislike these students, judge them?  Do you like your job, hate your job?  Why?  Use your answers to find beliefs to let go.

Each character plays a role.  The teacher represents the masculine role; the students are in feminine roles.  You’ll see beliefs from both aspects of your mind in these characters.  As you step into each character, behave as if you want to let go and know how to let go.  Clean up the entire scene.

What you should discover is that without the beliefs that you held in mind before the dream, you couldn’t have had that exact dream.  That’s a valuable lesson.  The same is true of life.

Some therapists go batshit crazy and advise people to pretend they’re the desk or chair.  That’s generally not worth our time.  You might have beliefs about furniture, but furniture doesn’t have beliefs about you.

 

What you Learn

Ideally, we want to live our own True story as the writer, director, and main character.  Everyone else in our life plays a supporting character; we’re also supporting characters for them.  We want to have symbiotic, not codependent, competitive, or opposing relationships with others.

If we perceive that a story character is dominating us or has an intention to harm us in our dream, we’ll feel as if they’re writing our dream (or nightmare).  We’ve given them or someone like them the masculine leadership role for our life.  We probably feel we have to please this character so they’ll let us have what we want.  Their rules for life represent the rules we believe we must live by; they’re our false God who rewards and punishes us.

This was the original end goal of selling religious stories as the truth.  They were originally someone’s personal story.  But they wanted their story to be the story.  They wanted to rule the world instead of just being the king of their life.  Even today, you see new religions and new spiritual teachings being born; they always have a story that makes those teachings or that teacher the ONE.  People often claim to be called or special so that they can mute your story and replace it with their story.  If you follow their practices or their protocol, you’ll get to be a minion in their kingdom — a walk on character that fulfills their dreams.  You’ll NEVER get to live your life.

As you let go of beliefs, you do become the main character in your story living the script that you’ve written.  You’re day and night dreams will improve.  If you want to be completely free, your story must be win-win for everyone.  No one would be your minion, prisoner, or slave.  They’ll simply be other creators who stopped by to temporarily co-create with you and play a character in your story because it’s fun.

Making Our Dreams (Desires) Come True

Rich and Poor, Apathy and Longing

There’s no shortage of advice on the subject of manifesting desires.  I’ve probably heard and tried it all at some point in my life.  But often, after hanging out in those conversations, I’d find that I wasn’t manifesting my desires as promised.

Disillusioned, I’d think I just couldn’t get it.  Sometimes I’d feel post-manifest guilt if I willed people or things into my life with visualization or affirmation.  Often I was physically and mentally exhausted from my need to be spiritually worthy or keep my vibration tuned.  Mental hard work had replaced physical hard work.

 

What Do You Really Want?

By the time people come to me, they’re often in pretty deep apathy.  “I don’t want anything; I just want to be myself,” they say.  I get it; I felt like that once.  But apathy isn’t even close to freedom.  They’re further from their True Self than they were before their first workshop.  If you look at the our old  triangle process, apathy and longing sit at the bottom of the triangle.  We’ll hang out in longing until we give up, then we’ll laterally move over to apathy.  People often mistake apathy for  acceptance.

Rich and poor are another bottom of the triangle dynamic duo related to abundance.  Jesus said that the rich can’t get to heaven because he knew that the rich have the poor hidden within their unconscious mind.  They project their poor mindset on to others who take it because they’ve been taught to see money as evil.  The rich would have to unveil their own poverty mindset and let their poor projection off the hook to get to abundance (heaven).  He didn’t see them doing that.

Abundance got stretched out of form by new thought movements.  Abundance to the initiates was a state of mind where you knew that whatever you needed or truly desired could be manifested with a single powerful thought.  People often use the term abundance when they really mean rich or longing.  This creates level confusion.

 

True Versus False Desires

Desires that feel calm and peaceful are true.  When we can calmly enjoy something in our mind, it’s a true desire.  If our desires comes laced with emotions, like excitement or jealousy, then either the false self is blocking them or they aren’t true desires.  If desires remains after we let go of the false thoughts that are causing the emotion, they’re true desires; and they’re on their way to us.  If our desires are false, they’ll disappear.

Here’s a technique that I give to people (and myself) a lot.  Think of something you’ve wanted for a long time; picture it in your mind if you want.  Noticed if any emotion arises in your body.  Avoid labeling the emotion.  Focus your attention on the emotion until a thought arises.  Remember, don’t wallow in the emotion or analyze it, just witness it.  Thoughts that arise out of the emotion will generally be contrary to your desire.  It will appear to be true, but it’s not true.  It could be a past reality because it happened to you before or you saw it in others, but we’re not trying to prove reality.  We’re trying to get to the truth.

If you realize that the contrary thought isn’t true, you’ll be able to let it go.  If you think it is true, you’re screwed.  Your mind is blocking your desire.  Until you can get rid of that contrary thought or thoughts, your only option to get the desire is to will it — to force it to manifest.  That can work, but you’ll probably have post-manifest guilt.

Reality is the effect of the beliefs we’ve believed in the past.  Until we let them go, they create in our life.  You’re seeing the belief that caused the state you’re currently in.  Beliefs always look true when they rise up from our unconscious mind.  We suppressed them because they felt bad when we first heard them.  They rise up wearing the same mask they wore when we suppressed them.

Always remember that you can’t let go of the true self.  You can’t hurt anyone or anything by letting go.  If you stay with this exercise until all the emotion is gone, you’ll see things clearly.  Don’t get discouraged; this can take some work.  Ideally, you don’t take any action until it’s inspired — in other words, it’s joyous and obvious.

 

Guilt or Shame

Let’s say that you go shopping and buy a new suit.  It’s gorgeous, and you feel great.  After driving home, emotion erupts.  That means that a belief has been triggered by your action.  If you put your “observer” attention on the emotion and listen, usually a belief will rear its ugly little fat head like,  “I spent too much money.”  If you accept that belief, you’re screwed.  Your mind will go into reasoning, guilting, shaming, worrying, blaming, justifying, etc.  But if you notice that the belief, “I spent too much money,” doesn’t feel good, so it isn’t the truth; and if you let it go, you’ll go right back to enjoying your suit.

People have to drug and sooth themselves because they don’t catch that first belief that arises after an action, and they go right down the toilet into the illusion’s sewage dump.  That single, seemingly innocent, belief is the entry point into the illusion.  Once the illusion has your ass, you’ll be stuck in its trap.  If you don’t correct your thinking, you’ll eventually feel emotion with any purchase until you can barely buy a loaf of bread.  People over time move from cautious, to thrifty, to cheap, to greed.  The illusion is seductive.  That’s why it’s rare that people get free.

Desires aren’t bad.  But desires do piss off the illusion.  Beliefs come out of hiding to fight for their life when we honor or raise our desires.  If we are watchful and catch the false thoughts as they arise, we’ll not only get our desires, we’ll get freedom.

 

 

There Are No Rules — Dropping Your Rulebook Part II

Empty Rulebook

The goal of initiation is an empty rulebook.  Unconditional love and the truth is all we need.

You now understand that rules and beliefs work together.  You recognize that anyone who either promotes a rule, makes a rule, or obeys a rule is not being their True Self.   Like me, you probably recognize that you have a pretty big rulebook to let go.

 

Getting Stuck Versus Gaining Freedom

We are born with no rules; as True Selves we would do nothing that was not win-win.  To get stuck in the illusion, we accept the concept of good and evil, right and wrong, or win and lose.  We accept that humans are imperfect or even bad.  Then we borrow beliefs and rules that support those premises and build our rulebook.

Our rulebook is a unique blend of our religion, our parental influence, our community, and our culture.  Our role and birth order in our family will make a difference in our book of rules.  Our choice of activities, dreams, and personality will all go into making our custom rulebook for life.  Since the rules often came loaded with fear, promises of punishment, or threats of hell, we keep that rulebook firmly in our mind like we are guarding a treasure chest.

The True Self operates based on true and false.  It accepts only the truth, and it lets go of that which is false.  Since all rules and beliefs are false, the goal of initiation is to get back to our True Self and drop our entire rulebook.  But you don’t have to drop them all right away.  Start with the ones that cause you the most problems.

 

Hard Working Sally’s Rulebook

Sally dreamed of being a fashion designer.  As a child, she and her best friend, Rachel, were constantly creating new fashions and playing dress-up.  Sally’s parents gave her some well-meaning advice.  They taught her that she would get her dream if she went to church every week, got perfect grades in school, went to college, and was deserving in God’s eyes.  They told her it would require very hard work.

Sally did her very best to follow the rulebook she was given, but all doors seemed to be closed; her dream was fast becoming impossible.  She decided that she must not be deserving.  She tried so hard to be good, she worked very hard, and she constantly wondered what she did wrong.

To add insult to injury, Rachel got a job with the top design firm in New York.  Rachel didn’t go to college, never went to church, was an average student, and slept around.  To Sally, this looked incredibly unfair.  She wanted to be happy for Rachel, but she just couldn’t.  Rachel didn’t fit Sally’s rulebook; and yet, she got what Sally wanted.

It is these seemingly unfair moments that cause us to examine our rulebook.  The purpose of these experiences is to show us that our rulebook isn’t true.  But often we can’t the obvious.  What Sally didn’t consider was that Rachel’s parents didn’t give her a rulebook.  They gave her unconditional love and told her she could have whatever she wanted from life.  Without a rulebook, Rachel’s True Self easily led her to success.

 

Dropping Sally’s Rulebook

If Sally wants to have her dream, she has to start chipping away at her own rulebook.  First she must recognize that her rulebook isn’t true.  It is just the rulebook that her parents gave her.

If a rule is true, it works for everyone; and it feels good.  Sally must also recognize that she wouldn’t have a dream that she can’t achieve.  She just has to remove enough rules so that the dream can be fulfilled.  The rules that got her deep into the illusory world limited her too much for her dream to manifest.

Rachel exposed Sally’s beliefs.  But often, a Sally will make a Rachel wrong instead of fixing their own mind.  Sally might decide that Rachel must have slept with someone to get the job.  That way, Sally can keep her rulebook intact; she can justify her own failure.  This rationalization would keep Sally stuck and continue to push her dream away.

To get free, Sally must recognize that going to church, working hard, and getting perfect grades are not requirements for success — they were false rules in her parent’s rulebook.  She will have to look at what she believes makes someone deserving.  She must look at success from new eyes.  As she lets go of more and more beliefs or rules, she will create an opening for her dream to come true.  When the opening is large enough, she’ll be a fashion designer.

 

You Didn’t Write the Rules;

But You Sure as Hell Believed Them

We’ve all been stuck in someone’s rulebook.  Often people feel overwhelming panic or fear at the thought that they have followed a book of lies; I sure did. It seriously rocks your world.  But acknowledgement is the first step toward freedom.  You can’t drop a rule that you believe to be true, good, or right.

The only reason you know another’s rulebook so well is that you were taught it, believed it, and then saw the proof.  We see what we believe.  The physical proof that you observed was the manifestation of the rulebook.  You accepted your authority’s rules because you were innocent and didn’t know how to discriminate between true and false; you trusted others.  Sadly, the others we trusted didn’t know they had a flawed rulebook.  You didn’t do anything wrong, you’re not being punished, and you are deserving.

Initiation reverses our rulebook and opens the gateway to fulfillment of our dreams.  When our rulebook is gone, the illusion disappears.  All that remains is the truth, which is an empty rulebook.

 

That was the appetizer, now here is the meal.
