The Body (The Effect of the Mind)

Banyon tree as metaphor for initiation

By Cathy Eck

Physical is the Effect

My perspective of the body changed dramatically the day I read one of Edgar Cayce’s most famous quotes.  “Spirit is the life, mind is the builder, and physical is the result.”

Edgar Cayce was affectionately known as the “sleeping prophet.” For forty-three years (early 1900’s), Cayce put himself into an hypnotic state after lying on a couch, closing his eyes, and folding his hands over his stomach.  He would respond to questions as diverse as, “What are the secrets of the universe?” or “How can I remove a wart?” His responses came to be called “readings.”  As you know, I’m not a big fan of psychics or prophets.  Cayce interested me because I’d worked as a hypnotherapist and discovered that people were insanely honest under hypnosis.  With the conscious mind out of the way, they also got wiser.

Cayce spoke in the style of the Bible writers; I often found the same deep meaning in his words.  This eventually caused me to realize that we all have the truth inside; but we’re brain washed, so we look for the truth outside.

Prior to reading Cayce’s quote about the body/physical, I’d tried like hell to understand the body; but quite frankly, the perceptions and knowledge of experts sounded small, limited, and completely disempowering to me.  They spoke with conviction; and seemed far too comfortable with memorized knowledge.

Beliefs and the Body

Applying this quote wasn’t just about looking at my body and telling it that it looked beautiful or healthy.  It wasn’t about just numbing or releasing my stress or emotions.  It wasn’t about changing my outer world either.  I came to realize that my body knew if I was speaking from beliefs (lying); and it knew if I was believing other people instead of my Self.  My body simply wanted me to trust my True Self.  And that felt impossible at the time.

Believing lies and holding on to them, weakened my immune system; but I was scared not to believe experts in the beginning.  I feared that they were right because I’d not yet come to understand that beliefs generate emotion.  The doctor had no emotion when he spoke a diagnosis; but I felt overwhelmed with emotion when I heard it.  That’s the power of projection.  In the true world, the doctor would feel the overwhelm of emotion; s/he’s the source.  They wouldn’t be able to speak a belief or knowledge.  This is just one example of how the illusion puts us on the train to hell while telling us that we’re heaven bound.

Eventually, I realized that every belief that I held in mind was stored somewhere in my body.  If I could find the causal belief, the emotions left and the problem disappeared without any treatment.

The Way Out

In talking about Jesus, Cayce said, “He hath shown the way; not by some mysterious fluid, not by some unusual vibration, but by the simple method of living that which is life itself.  Think no evil; speak no evil; hear no evil.  And as the truth flows as a stream of life through the mind in all its phases or aspects, and purifies same, so will it purify, revivify and rejuvenate the body (294-183).”  Reading that was like, “Dah.”  Notice that he didn’t say to change our diet, meditate ourself into oblivion, raise our vibration, or twist our body into strange positions.  He said purify the mind.  Cayce’s words were often in sync with the initiation teachings.  But oddly, his readings that gave personal medical advice was just like any doctor or healer; he clearly didn’t believe that an ordinary Jill or Joe could do what initiates did.  That’s where we parted ways.  I did know that initiation was for anyone who wanted it.  I was an ordinary Jill.

In a Search for God group, Cayce was asked, “Is it possible for our bodies to be rejuvenated in this incarnation?”  He responded, “Possible.  The body is an atomic structure, the units of energy around which there are the movements of atomic forces that are ever the pattern of a universe.  Then, when these atoms are made to conform or rely upon or to be one with the spiritual import, the spiritual activity, then they revivify, then they make for constructive forces.  (262-85).”  But he then went on to say that rejuvenation wasn’t probable for anyone; most people weren’t inclined to do the intense work necessary to achieve the required mental state.  They’re too easily distracted by outer occurrences, i.e., the benefits of the illusion or fixing effects.

Most teachers today say that we can’t let go of our beliefs, at least not big ones, so we have to will our body or rise above it.  I disagree.  However, initiation isn’t a weekend workshop.  It’s a way of life.  It was said that Pythagoras spent decades in schools of initiation.  Cayce said that Jesus was initiated during his missing eighteen years.  People don’t realize how strong of a commitment they need for this path.  We hold beliefs about everything and everyone.

In the Beginning…

Years ago, I was sitting in my office and heard a loud voice in my mind speak, “Do you want to be beautiful on the inside or outside?”  I quickly answered “inside.”  I meant that answer; I wasn’t being proper.  This question was a bit of a trick to pull me inside.  My willingness to give up something that I held very dearly put me on this path.  I had to see my body free of fixing effects; that wasn’t easy.  But it was necessary for me.

Imagine how easy life would be if everyone’s physical body mirrored their mind.  No one could trick us.  Pure-minded people would be beautiful; those who hold beliefs would be ugly.  Fixing effects would be proof that you were an ugly person.  A lot of businesses would die a quick death.  And letting go would be the most popular game in town.

Cayce Gardens ARE, Virginia Beach

People are Perfect

I’m writing this article from the ARE (Association for Research and Enlightenment) library in Virginia Beach.  The library was founded by “the sleeping prophet” Edgar Cayce; it houses the Cayce Readings. Most people don’t know that it’s the second largest metaphysical library in the world.  The first is the Vatican.

Those men in funny hats and robes might look like they don’t appreciate new thought, but they’re immersed in it.  We share the same information except I share everything I learn and know.  They don’t.  I want people to thrive because I know people are perfect. They want people to survive only to support the illusion.  I see life as a creative experience; they see it as a competitive game.  I see heaven on earth now; they see it after death.

Religion was founded on the idea that people are sinful and stupid at the core. People aren’t worthy of the truth, nor are they able to handle it with their small minds.  I couldn’t disagree more.

Memories

I wanted to return to this library to let go of some painful memories.  I loved every minute in this library, but it was my escape.  I came here looking for answers, and I found my Self.  At first, I just wanted to be able to explain life to my kids.  The way people read the Bible, they contradicted themselves constantly, often in the same sentence.  The Pope made rules and then dropped the rules when people quit going to church.  Telling my kids that Santa was the giver of presents and then later telling them that lying was bad seemed hypocritical.

In the end, it wasn’t about the books in this library.  Somehow, this place triggered my True Self.  Marinating among the pages made my Self stronger.  My perspective changed back to my childhood perspective, my emotions started guiding me, and my natural discrimination returned.

Sinister Beauty

Ancient writings have a sinister beauty about them.  If you read them as stories about the mind or the psyche, they’re beautiful, congruent, and pure.  But if you look up to them from the physical perspective, they support the illusion and are completely disempowering.

From the True Self perspective, man was powerful, God’s precious child, and perfect.  From the physical (false self) perspective, man was sinful, dirty, and badly in need of fixing.  Yet, both perspectives existed in the same story.  It was all about where you stood as the reader.  Did you stand at the top of the triangle or the bottom?

Heretic

For a long time, I would see both perspectives at the same time in the same story.  It drove me crazy.  I realized that the perspective that made my heart sing wasn’t the perspective that everyone believed.  I wanted to free my friends and family.  But they weren’t as enamored with my discoveries as I was.  They saw me as a heretic, and suddenly I knew what that word meant.

Hera in Greek mythology was Zeus’ wife.  She saw through his shit and called him on his game regularly.  While his minions looked up to him as God; she knew he was just a wimpy man.  He needed his big trident to feel important.  Hera beat Zeus at his own game; over and over again, she proved he was an imposter.  He hated her for exposing him, but it was exactly what he needed to be free of his ridiculous false self.

This is the job of the feminine.  It discriminates using emotions. Perpetuating the illusion required turning Hera into a first-class bitch.  A heretic was someone who speaks the truth that exposes the illusion.  When you discriminate or live from your True Self, you’re a heretic — welcome to the club.  When we fear being a heretic, we stay in the illusion.  The road to freedom is paved with courage.

My Inner Hera

While my days in this library were filled with joy, my nights were filled with tears.  I didn’t like being seen as an evil bitch — a heretic.  When I shared my discoveries, I was mocked, told I was going to hell, and told I was completely crazy by everyone, even those who supposedly embraced new thought.  I learned that people are terrified of exposing the illusion because heretics haven’t lived long in history (his story).  In fact, religion has made the True Self into the devil.  Thus humans invent infinite ways to fix the effects of their thinking rather than just address the scary cause.

Finding the answers took a few years.  Figuring out how to explain it so people could understand it took longer.  Getting the confidence to share it took a few more years.  I knew the truth sets us free.  I knew that people deserved this information even if they didn’t know they deserved it.  But I was terrified to share it.

Letting Go

I realized that I had to let go of the judgments and beliefs that I’d accepted from society.  I had to free myself first — eliminate any doubt in my own mind.  In a strange way, I came to admire the game makers.  They pulled off a good one.  As I saw how they created the illusion of power, the power started to dissolve.

As I continue to let go of my own beliefs, everything becomes right. I get the right words and the courage to write them.  The right people read those words.  It’s not a miracle; it’s normal.  Winning in the illusion is about doing what’s easy; freedom from the illusion is about letting go so you can do what you thought was impossible.

I share what I’ve learned so that others know it’s safe to be themselves.  As I sit in this library, I’m reminded of how far I’ve come; I’m also reminded of how far I have yet to go.  But as I sit here today, I’m much more content with the journey.  In fact, I’ve grown to enjoy it.

Can We Identify a True Self by Appearance?

The initiate's body

By Cathy Eck

In a culture where good looks are like a get-out-of-jail free card, it is natural to wonder how letting go will impact our body.  Lester Levinson, an American who reached the state of freedom, said that people who once looked beautiful suddenly looked plastic and ugly ducklings became beautiful swans.  More and more, I have glimpses of what he was saying.

Edgar Cayce and the True Self

About twenty years ago, I was doing research in the library at the Association for Research and Enlightenment (Edgar Cayce’s Organization), which is said to be the second largest metaphysical library in the world, after the Vatican.

Edgar Cayce was called the sleeping prophet.  He could place himself into a hypnotic state and answer questions.  He did over 14,000 readings.  I became very interested in Cayce’s work since he did many readings on ancient Egypt providing useful clues for my initiation research.  Often, while flipping through his readings, I would uncover little Cayce tidbits that inspired me to dig deeper into my own mind.  This was one of them.

Cayce had a study group that he was very close to.  At one point, he gave a reading that the group found so beautiful that their eyes teared, their minds went silent, and they experienced what Cayce called attunement.  In the language of initiation, their True Self was revealed.  When that happened, Cayce said he saw who they really were, and the difference was so great that he had to go collect himself.  Obviously, his false self came back into control; his True Self wouldn’t have felt the need for collection.

George’s True Self Shines

Shortly after reading this, I was trying to deal with a client who was very angry with my programmer.  While I knew the problem wasn’t serious and could easily be fixed, the client didn’t see it that way.  I brought my programmer and my trainer on this particular job into my office, and we called the client.

Now I must tell you something about George, my programmer.  He was a super nerd.  His clothes didn’t match, he had gigantic glasses, and he only showed signs of emotion when he talked about his toy soldier collection.

I dialed the phone and held my breath ready to be attacked.   As the client said, “Hello,” George raised his hand toward me and whispered, “Cathy, I’ve got this handled.”  As George masterfully alleviated the client’s concern and turned him from a raging bull into a puppy dog, I watched my eyes do something crazy.  I saw George’s True Self, and he was outrageously handsome.  He completely morphed before my eyes.

As the call ended, George went back to super nerd.  I never told him what I saw.  But I now understood why we are so drawn to beauty.  Before the illusion was masterminded, beauty meant that you were pure and could be trusted.  But then the illusion introduced the notion that beauty on the inside meant ugly on the outside and vice versa.  Now we can’t tell a book by its cover, and we are often tricked by false beauty.

True Self Versus False Self

I’ve learned a lot about the True Self since that time in my life.  It never goes away; it just gets covered up with the false self (a huge complex of beliefs and memories).  So the potential to return to true beauty is as great as our potential to return to our True Self.

Once we accept beliefs, we begin to see proof of them.  Eventually, we relabel our beliefs as the truth, and the false self takes charge.  The false self views life as unsafe and beyond our control, so it creates an army to fight off the enemy or a camouflage of good to protect its body.

In order to free our True Self and its body temple, we have to eliminate the army or the camouflage.  But we aren’t going to do this if we can’t let go of our beliefs.  We fear that we’ll die if we don’t have our protection.  We don’t realize that our beliefs project out our enemies; so our persona is only fighting our own false self.  Our false mind tells us that we have nothing to gain by letting go and everything to lose.  Most people believe the false mind; and work toward perfection of their persona.  Some personas are almost perfect clones of the True Self.  We can only tell the difference because the True Self has no enemies to battle.

The ancient initiates were described as beautiful and eternally youthful people.  But it was not because they had great personas, good genes, fine plastic surgeons, or an incredible workout routine.  It was because they were completely pure in mind.  They didn’t have any beliefs so they didn’t need a persona.

Can We Return to the True Self Body?

Cayce told his group that it was possible, but unlikely, to perfect their bodies in this lifetime.  However, he provided another clue that supported the body as a Temple theory.  He said that spirit is our life force, mind builds on that life force, and the physical is merely the effect.  This matches what the initiates taught.  First, they avoided fixing effects.  Second, they let go of the beliefs in their mind.  They didn’t just let go of some of them; they let go of all of them.  Then they let their spirit shine through.  This is why people painted the initiates with a glow around their body and head and called them Gods.

My favorite story as a child was the ugly ducking; I hoped it was true and that one day I’d be a swan.  I didn’t understand the story back then, but I loved it.  And as my journey has progressed, I understand why.

Seven Mayan Prophecies

We design our own fortune

What appears to come from without comes from within.  We have the ability and the right to change our minds and make the prophets wrong.

By Cathy Eck

THE SEVEN MAYAN PROPHECIES

What you Don’t Know About Prophecy

While I don’t know the source of these prophecies, they are consistent with the tone of the Mayan philosophy and the prophecies of other ancient elders.  They are certainly good advice.

People often worry about prophecies.  But Edgar Cayce, also known as the sleeping prophet, was very clear that prophecies are merely a warning.  They are not an exact foretelling.  If we are wise, we’ll use the prophecies as motivation for change.  They are harmful if they create fear with no transformation.

People mistook Biblical prophecies for the truth, and they made no effort to change.  People still don’t learn from Biblical prophecies; they simply wait for them to happen.

In short, being a prophet is the worst job in the world because it is important that we learn from the prophecies and prove the prophet wrong.  Prophecy is not a job for people who want approval or need to be right.

Time Without Time

The first of the Mayan prophecies talks about a time without time.” It is said that starting in 1999, the human being has to choose to change their attitude and open their mind to integrate everything.  We have to see ourselves as part of the human race, a citizen of the world.  Time is a mechanism of control.  When we live beyond time, we take back our power.

Humanity will enter the great room of mirrors; consequently, we will meet ourselves on every corner and in every relationship.  That which we have hidden under a mask will be exposed.

Materialism will be left behind and will give way to liberation from suffering.  This is good news since we will come to be evaluated based on our character and our love, not our bank balance.

Answers Are Within

The second prophecy states that all answers are within. The behavior of all humanity will change rapidly.  Humans will either easily lose control of their emotions or will realize their inner peace.  If they die, it will be from their own fear.  In the language that I use on this website, we will either hold on and go deeper into the illusion, or we will let go and move toward greater freedom.

This prophecy indicates that the energy received from the center of the galaxy is increasing the frequency of the planet and human brain waves.  This is altering behavior and our way of thinking and feeling.  It is why people are so emotional these days.  Our beliefs are rising to the surface of our conscious mind.  This prophecy mentions two potential paths: one of compassion and love and another of fear and destruction. The path to follow will be chosen individually.

In a world that is speeding up, we don’t have time to search for every answer and contemplate our decisions.  We have to know what is right for us quickly and accurately.  That wisdom comes from within; knowing how to discriminate between true and false will become very important.

Climate Change

The third prophecy states that there will be a change in temperature producing climactic, geological, and social changes. This will be generated by man’s lack of conscience regarding the protection of the planet’s natural resources and by the sun’s natural cycles.  Don’t confuse this with the fear-based theory of global warming.  This is partly manmade and partly just a natural cycle.

The fourth of the Mayan prophecies points out that the anti-ecological conduct of man and the greater activity by the sun will cause a melting of ice in the poles. This will allow the earth to cleanse itself producing changes in the physical composition of the continents.

Fear-Based Systems

The fifth prophecy states that all systems based on fear will fail; man will transform to give way to a new harmonic reality.  This of course includes all religious and political organizations since they all have fear at the core.  This is very good news.

People will become spiritual as opposed to religious.  Religion has served its purpose; and it is no longer needed.  We must remember that only beliefs contain fear; and all beliefs are artificial lies.  The truth never generates fear.

Man will face himself, reorganize society, and continue down the path of evolution bringing him to understand creation.  This is why letting go is so important.   Each time we let go, a little more of the loving creator God force fills our mind and body.  The Mayans said that we would leave the old moral systems behind and start operating from the natural ethics of the True Self.

Comet Appearance

The sixth of the Mayan prophecies states that a comet will appear whose trajectory will endanger man. The Mayan culture considers comets to be agents of change that come to invoke the evolution of the collective conscience.

This is the most fear-inducing of the prophecies.  The question comes down to whether the prophecy is about physical transformation, which could be destructive, or a mental change.  My feeling is that if we make the mental change, the physical wake-up call won’t be necessary.  I’ve had many experiences where doom loomed nearby in my life experience; but when I got the message, the problem disappeared completely.

No Labels, No Lies, No Borders

The seventh of the Mayan prophecies said that from the year 1999 until 2012, the light emitted from the center of the galaxy would synchronize all living beings and create an internal transformation producing new realities. The Mayans mention that every person can change and break through its limitations with pure thought.  Pure thought comes naturally from the True Self, authenticity is the cure for humanity.

It is predicted that limits will disappear.  A new era of transparency and light will begin, and the lies will end forever.  What more could we ask for?  We will finally behave as creators in the image and likeness of God.
